About this role

We're looking for an infrastructure engineer to help us deploy, deliver and scale our cloud-native infrastructure to handle hundreds of thousands of daily players.

Ziax is the company behind the gaming brand CubeCraft Games, one of the top Minecraft servers in the world. In this role you will be working directly with our massive multiplayer network.

  • Database administration including PostgreSQL and Elastic (also Kafka and Redis)
  • Improving our observability platform to ensure faster root cause analysis of issues
  • Troubleshooting network, software and hardware issues

Requirements

  • Familiarity using cloud-native tooling such as Docker, Podman and Kubernetes
  • Experience managing Linux-based operating systems and scripting languages such as Bash and Python
  • Experience working with databases (Ideally PostgreSQL and Redis)
  • Understanding of IP Networking and protocols such as DNS, DHCP and IPv6
  • Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines (we use GitHub)

Desired traits

  • Experience using OpenShift/OKD and managing RHEL-based operating systems such as Fedora and CentOS
  • Competency in writing and deploying Java based applications
  • Experience working with distributed databases (e.g MongoDB replica sets, clusters; Galera/XtraDB MySQL Clusters)
  • Used cloud scaling tools such as OpenStack and Kubernetes Cluster-API
  • Knowledge of overlay networking, especially in distributed environments

You should know/be able to:

  • The difference between a container and virtual machine
  • The characteristics of sharding and replication when building scalable databases
  • Broadly, how a traceroute works
  • Broadly, how a container runtime works

Depending on various factors (such as level, experience and location) which will be discussed during the recruitment process the compensation is expected to be, on average, around £13-£25 an hour for this role.
